Close air support is tricky-maintaining speed, accuracy, and target saturation is difficult in a dangerous combat environment. One of the most effective close air support aircraft in history was the AC-47D Gunship. The ruggedly constructed, WWII-era, AC-47D could absorb an inordinate amount of punishment and its low flying speed allowed it to loiter over targets. Its armament was 3 miniguns-enough firepower to pour out nearly four hundred pounds of lead in one minute.
